How good are you ?

About the randomness
Despite many claims about a one-sided dealer the fact is that BBO routinely run test deals to check and ensure the randomness. This does not mean that you will not see your opponents getting all the cards for 8 consequetive boards, just as you will see it in any downtown club, but it means that in a statistically safe number of deals N, S, E, and W will get an average very close to 10 hp per deal.

How to assess your skill
Those playing regularly in TPTC will easily reach a “statistically safe number of deals”, that give you your share of the high cards. The typical tournament in the club runs over 5 rounds so this should be the outcome (for the sake of the argument we assume results after 100 tournaments):

50 times you should advance to round 2
25 times you should advance to round 3
12 times you should advance to round 4 (Semis)
6 times you should advance to round 5 (Finals)
    3 times you should win

Above is valid for a player in TPTC of average strength, who should win 3% of the tournaments he/she plays. Checking your own performance, variations from these figures will tell you something about your own skill compared to that of the average TPTC player.
